Perth Mint Silver Koala

The Silver Koala series is a popular coin to be collected due to the changing design of the koala every year. It was originally a one-ounce coin in 2007, and then in 2008 they expanded the coin series to four different sizes including a one-kilo, 10 oz, and ½ oz coins. This coin is Australian legal tender and the one-ounce coin carries a face value of one Australian dollar.

Front / Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is always on the obverse of this coin. She is facing the right in a profile position. Around her profile, you will see an engraving of the coin’s denomination.

Rear / Reverse

The reverse of the coin is an image of Australia’s famous marsupial,  the koala bear. Every year, the koala design that is used on this coin changes.

HISTORY

This unique coin commemorates Australia’s famous koala bear, making it a popular collector’s item. It was originally manufactured in 2007 as a one-ounce coin, but beginning in 2008 they began to manufacture a variety of sizes of these coins. These coins are affordable for young collectors and popular due to the changing design each year.
