Perth Mint Lunar Series 2: Year of the Rooster

Since 2008, the Lunar Series II coin program from Australia’s Perth Mint has featured a new design each year that honors an animal that represents the Chinese lunar calendar for that year. In 2017, they chose to honor the rooster by creating the year of the rooster silver coin. This is the tenth coin in a set of twelve.

HISTORY

The Year of the Rooster coin is a popular collector’s item that is part of the Lunar Series II. Each year represents a different animal believed to reflect a person’s personality attributes if they are born in that particular year, according to the Chinese calendar.

It is believed that an individual born under the Year of the Rooster is motivated, social, and talented. This coin is a fun addition to any collection, as it shows the hard working rooster taking care of his hen and chicks.
