Front / Obverse

The front side of the American Silver Eagle shows an image of Lady Liberty walking toward the sun. This image is known as “Walking Liberty” and was originally used on the silver Half Dollar.

Rear / Reverse

The back side of the American Silver Eagle shows an eagle behind a shield holding arrows and an olive branch. Above the eagle’s head are thirteen stars representing the thirteen original colonies.

HISTORY

American Silver Eagles were first released in the United States in November 1986 under the Liberty Coin Act. This act made it possible for the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury to release silver bullion coins. Every year since, the United States Mint has released the coin to praise and popularity.
