In Dallas County, TX, a couple who spent 54 years together was finally able to get married. Eighty four year-old Jack Evans and 82 year-old George Harris tied the knot immediately following the historic U.S. Supreme Court decision that made it legal for same-sex couples to marry. They were the first gay couple to be wed in Dallas County, on June 26, 2015.
According to PEOPLE, the day was one to be remembered as Jack Evans reflected:
You would have been blown away by the crowd there, there must have been 450 people there, people waiting to get married, reporters. It was amazing. Just amazing.
